Portuguese free surf blogger/ big wave surfer Nic von Rupp recently posted a photo of a “30 tall by 30 wide” wave on Instagram. On it Kelly Slater amassed 60 likes by commenting “paddling?”

Instagram user smoothy100, whose profile says he’s from Ireland, said: “he was paddling.”

Slater’s innocent query was soon answered. Von Rupp’s next clip was of him paddling Mullaghmore.
